SEARCY, Ark. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (32-13, 23-7 GSC) scored five runs in the top of the sixth to top the Bisons from Harding University (34-13, 21-9 GAC) 7-5 this afternoon at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy.
The Statesmen had a solid outing in relief from freshman right-handed pitcher
Aidan McCrady. McCrady threw four innings, forcing five ground outs and four fly outs to earn his second win of the season.
At the plate, every Statesmen batter collected a hit as DSU scored seven runs on nine hits.
Delta State got on the board first in the top of the second starting with a rbi single from
Jacob Hill to make it 1-0. Hill would cause havoc on the basepaths as a stolen base would cause an error to bring in the second run of the inning making it 2-0.
The Bisons would respond with four runs in the bottom of the second and a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it 5-2.
Delta State would deliver the knockout punch in the top of the sixth with a five-run inning starting with a rbi double from
Andin Johnson to make it 5-3. On the next at-bat,
Preston Soper would make it a one-run game with a rbi single up the middle to make it 5-4.
Three batters later, with the bases loaded,
Wes Warnock would tie the game with a four pitch bases loaded walk.
Brendan McCauley would add on to the inning with a two-run single to left field to give Delta State a 7-5 win.
The Statesmen would hold on to win 7-5 to improve to 32-13 on the season.
The Statesmen will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series in Clinton, Miss., this weekend against the Choctaws from Mississippi College. The series will kick off Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. (CDT).
