No. 12 Statesmen Drop Two Games against Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (27-10, 19-5 GSC) dropped two games in a double header to the Falcons from the University of Montevallo (20-18, 11-3 GSC) Saturday afternoon at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.
 
Montevallo took game one 11-7 and followed it up with a 7-3 game two victory to take the series.
 
GAME ONE
Brendan McCauley would have a career-high five hit performance in game one as he would go 5-5 with three rbis and a home run.
 
The Statesmen got on top early with a two-run top of the first with a rbi single from Dylan Dendy and bases loaded hit by pitch to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Montevallo would answer with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead.
 
After a two-run bottom of the fourth from the Falcons, Delta State would score in the top of the fifth with a rbi infield single from Triston Hickman to make it 5-3.
 
Montevallo would extend the lead to 8-3 on a three-run home run. Delta State would make it 8-7 after a home run from McCauley and Hickman along with another rbi from McCauley on a single.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, UM would add three insurance runs to hold on to a 11-7 win.
 
GAME TWO
Delta State would take a 2-0 lead in the fifth before Montevallo would answer with seven consecutive runs to win 7-3.
 
Delta State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth with back-to-back rbis with a double from Brett Burrell and a single from Dylan Coleman to take a 2-0 lead.
 
After seven consecutive runs from the Falcons, an attempted rally from the Statesmen fell short in the top of the seventh despite a run from Burrell on a balk to make it 7-3.
 
The Statesmen return to Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field to take on the Boll Weevils from the University of Arkansas at Monticello Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. (CDT).
