JACKSON, Tenn. – The Delta State University men's soccer team fell 2-1 in a tightly contested Gulf South Conference road match against Union University at the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.
The
Statesmen (1-4-2, 0-2-1 GSC) overcame an early deficit to control much of the second half, showing composure and creativity in the attack.
Senior defender
Santi Rossi provided the highlight of the evening, scoring the equalizer in the
78th minute with a composed finish inside the box. The goal was Rossi's first of the season and capped a sustained period of Delta State pressure.

Mason Baglio, who finished with
six saves, including several critical stops to keep DSU in contention.
After halftime, the Statesmen came out on the front foot, generating
10 shots on goal to Union's eight and holding a
7-6 edge in corner kicks.
Midfielders
Elijah Belk and
Micah Soper combined for seven shots, consistently testing the Bulldogs' back line, while sophomore
Matthew Nicklas and junior
Alfie Lally each forced key saves from the Union keeper.
The Green and White return back to Delta Field Sunday for a conference match against the Bucs from Christian Brothers University at approximately 3:30 p.m. (CDT)
