MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Delta State University Women's Soccer Team (0-1-1) added two equalizing goals, falling just short in a 3–2 setback against Saint Leo at Bobcat Field on the campus of Georgia College.
The Lady Statesmen out shot the Lions 19–10 and showed resilience with two equalizing goals.
Saint Leo struck first in the 5th minute, but Delta State wasted no time answering. Junior forward
Millie Congerton found the back of the net in the 9th minute for her first career goal, pulling the match level at 1–1.
After trailing 2–1 at halftime, the Lady Statesmen continued to press the attack, creating multiple scoring opportunities throughout the second half. The breakthrough came in the 82nd minute when sophomore midfielder
Yalitza Zepeda slotted home the equalizer off an assist from
Raegan Tucker, knotting the score at 2–2.
The Lions regained the lead in the 88th minute, but the Lady Statesmen kept the pressure on adding two shots before the final whistle. Delta State finished with nine shots on goal and showed balance across the attack, with Congerton, Zepeda, and
Janya Gonzalez combining for nine shots on goal.
Delta State (0-1-1) will return to action Tuesday afternoon as they will take on the Bobcats from Georgia College and State University. Tuesday's match will kick off at 1:00 p.m. (CDT)/ 2:00 p.m. (EST) from Bobcat Field.
