BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference announced their fall season academic All-Conference teams this afternoon. 10 Student Athletes from Delta State University earned Gulf South Conference All-Academic honors.
Eight members of the Delta State University football team made the All-Academic team marking the most of any team in the Gulf South Conference in football. While two members of the Delta State University Women's Soccer team earned All-Academic honors as well.
Members of the Statesmen football team include
Garrett Ames,
Carter Coullard,
Taylon Doss,
Cole Kirk,
Alex Larry,
Price Nixon,
Gabe Schweitzer, and
Cameron Threatt.
Ames appeared in nine games and started in four at Quarterback for the Statesmen where he threw for 1,044 yards and rushed for 143 yards scoring a total of 10 touchdowns in his redshirt freshman season. In the classroom, Ames currently holds a 3.44 GPA as a HPER major.
Coullard started in nine games for the Statesmen as a Tight End, where he hauled in seven receptions for 73 yards and two touchdowns and was a huge impact in the run game helping the Statesmen rush for 1650 yards this season. In the classroom, Coullard holds a 3.76 GPA as he graduated in December with a bachelor's degree in finance.
Doss was the leader on the defensive side of the ball for the green and white in 2025. Taylon totaled 34 tackles, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Doss is currently pursuing a master's degree in teaching where he holds a 3.76 GPA.
Kirk started and appeared in seven games at quarterback for Delta State in the 2025 season. The Selmer, Tenn., native threw for 1384 yards and rushed for 282 yards, scoring 12 total touchdowns. Kirk managed to pull off a 4.00 GPA as both an undergraduate and a graduate student, earning a master's degree in Sport & Human Performance.
Larry was a force on the defensive line for the green and white in the 2025 season. The Greenwood native started in all 10 games as a defensive tackle where he earned two GSC Defensive Player of the Week honors along with second team All-GSC recognition. In the classroom, Alex holds a 3.28 GPA as a HPER major.
Nixon transferred to DSU in the spring of 2025 where he became a big impact on special teams in the fall. The Clinton native appeared in all 10 games for the green and white as a punter and kickoff specialist pinning his opponents inside their 20, 18 times and had 19 touchbacks on kickoff. In the classroom, Nixon is pursuing an Integrated MBA where he has a 3.25 GPA.
Schweitzer was a force on the offensive line in the 2025 season. The Calera, Ala., native started in all 10 games as the left tackle for the green and white where he had a big impact on the offensive side of the ball helping an offense that totaled an average 411.4 yards per game. In the classroom, Schweitzer earned his master's degree in Sport and Human Performance with a 4.00 GPA.
Threatt was a big impact in the defensive backfield for Delta State in 2025. The Lewisburg native posted 18 tackles two interceptions and three pass breakups, playing in nine games at safety for DSU. In the classroom, Threatt graduated in December earning master's degree in Commercial Aviation, where he held a GPA of 3.80.
For the Lady Statesmen soccer team, junior forward
Millie Congerton and senior midfielder
Chloe Colquhoun earned GSC All-Academic honors.
Congerton was the leading scorer for the Lady Statesmen in 2025, the Rickmansworth, England native scored 13 points on the season including six goals and one assist along with three game winning goals. Congerton currently holds a 3.96 GPA as a HPER major at Delta State.
Colquhoun logged the most minutes of any midfielder on the Delta State women's team. The Glasgow, Scotland native scored six point on three goals, including two game winners in the 2025 season. Colquhoun is currently holding a GPA of 3.94 as an Accounting major at Delta State.
