Lady Statesmen Cruise Past CBU 71-35

Johnson adds Delta State Career-High 13 points

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Delta State University women's basketball team opened the back half of the 2025–26 Gulf South Conference season in dominant fashion Thursday evening, rolling to a 71–35 road victory over Christian Brothers at Canale Arena. 

The Lady Statesmen set the tone early, forcing turnovers and scoring efficiently in the paint to jump out to a commanding 23–7 lead after the first quarter. Delta State never trailed, extending the margin to 39–13 by halftime behind balanced scoring and relentless defensive pressure. 

Delta State finished the night shooting 47 percent from the floor while holding Christian Brothers to just 22.4 percent shooting. The Lady Statesmen controlled the interior, outscoring the Buccaneers 46–10 in the paint and forcing 19 turnovers that led to 17 points. 

Jariyah Williamson led Delta State with 14 points and four assists, while Bramyia Johnson recorded a Delta State career-high 13 points, shooting an efficient 5-of-9 from the field. Alyse Holliman added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench, and JNyria Kelly contributed eight points and three rebounds in limited minutes. Delta State's depth was on full display, with the bench accounting for 30 points. 

The Lady Statesmen maintained control throughout the second half, outscoring Christian Brothers 17–16 in the third quarter and 15–6 in the final frame to secure the 36-point win. Delta State also held advantages in fast-break points (14–0) and second-chance scoring (17–10). 

With the victory, Delta State improves to 1–0 overall and in conference play. The Lady Statesmen will look to build on the strong opening performance as they continue their road stretch with a trip to Jackson, Tenn., to take on the Lady Bulldogs from Union University.
