Statesmen Return Home for Two-Game Stretch with the Trojans and Flames

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (5-8, 2-6 GSC) return to Walter Sillers Coliseum for the first time in 2026 for a two-game home stretch tomorrow evening and Saturday afternoon.
 
The Statesmen start their two-game home stretch with First Responders Night as they host the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. (CT). Any first responder can get in for free wearing their uniform, or with an ID. Following Thursday's game, DSU will host the Flames from Lee University Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. (CT)
 
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call for both contests on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network and on the FloCollge Network. The pregame show on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network will air at approximately 30 minutes before tipoff.
 
Scouting the Statesmen
  • Delta State returns to Walter Sillers Coliseum for the first time in 2026 and are looking to snap a four-game losing streak after going 0-2 on the road to start the New Year at West Florida and Valdosta State
  • During last week's road trip to UWF and VSU, redshirt junior Dacory Porter put up a career day in Valdosta on Sunday afternoon. On the trip, Porter averaged 22.5 points per game while scoring a career high 28 points and grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out six assists against Valdosta State.
  • Junior guard Bryce Clayon also produced well during his averaged 34 minutes per game last weekend. The Naples native averaged 16 points per game after reaching the 20-point mark for the third time this season against West Florida where he shot 4-9 from beyond the arch.
Scouting the Trojans
  • The Trevecca Nazarene Trojans enter this weekend with a 9-4 overall record and are 4-3 in Gulf South Conference play after only opening up the New Year with a 78-63 win against their travel partner in the Lee Flames last Sunday afternoon in Nashville.
  • The Trojans have had solid production from freshman guard Fred Bailey. The Hendersonville Tenn., native is in the top two on the team in scoring, rebounding and assists for TNU. Last time out against Lee, Bailey led the way with 17 points, six rebounds and nine assists
  • Trevecca's leading scorer is also another freshman in Jax Abernathy. Abernathy enters this weekend averaging 15.5 points per game. Against Lee, he had a rough night from the field only scoring seven.
Scouting the Flames
  • The Lee Flames entering this weekend only winning one game in their last five contests as they hold a 6-5 overall record and a 3-4 record in Gulf South Conference Play. The Flames will play in Clinton against MC Thursday night before coming to Cleveland Saturday.
  • The Flames are led by junior guard Tylon Chatman. The 6-0 160 lbs. guard averages 14.5 points per game and is fourth in the GSC averaging 4.5 assists per game. Last season, Chatman had his career-high 25 points in Walter Sillers, but the Statesmen won 74-67.
  • Last time out, the Flames fell on the road to their GSC travel partner in Trevecca Nazarene 78-63 last Sunday evening in Nashville. Chatman and redshirt sophomore Ben Ritger led the way scoring 13 points each
