Lady Statesmen complete season Sweep against Union

First time since 2013-14

Jackson, Tenn – The Delta State University women's basketball team closed out a statement road victory Tuesday evening, rallying past the Lady Bulldogs from Union University for an 80–77 Gulf South Conference win at Fred DeLay Gymnasium to secure its first season sweep of the Lady Bulldogs since the 2013–14 season.

The Lady Statesmen improved to 13-9 overall and 11-6 in league play behind a dominant fourth-quarter performance, outscoring Union 23–10 over the final 10 minutes to erase a double-digit second-half deficit and complete the comeback.

Delta State's pace and depth proved decisive, finishing with advantages in fast-break scoring (22–9), bench points (39–22), and points off turnovers while forcing 16 Union miscues.

Kennedee Shelton powered the Lady Statesmen with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting to lead four Delta State players in double figures.

Madi Kate Vuncannon followed with 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while Anna Cera added 11 points, four assists, and key plays down the stretch.

Daniela Gintere provided nine points off the bench to help spark the decisive fourth-quarter surge.

Union, which fell to 16-8 overall and 11-5 in conference action, was led by Olivia Lee's game-high 24 points, with Abigail Bryan and Aubrey Sorrells contributing 15 points each.

Despite shooting efficiently for much of the night, the Lady Bulldogs were limited to just three made field goals in the final quarter as Delta State's defense tightened late.

With the victory, Delta State strengthens its position in the GSC standings while capturing a milestone season sweep of Union, continuing the Lady Statesmen's momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play.
