RICHARDSON, Texas — The Delta State University women's tennis continued its strong start to the 2026 season on Friday, sweeping Western New Mexico 4–0 at the UTD Tennis Complex to improve to 3–0 on the year. The Lady Statesmen controlled the match from the opening serve, taking the doubles point convincingly before securing three straight-set singles victories to clinch the team win.
Delta State wasted no time grabbing momentum, highlighted by a commanding performance on court one.
Amelia Ciesielczyk and Trinity Ly rolled to a 6–1 victory over Josefina Bailetti and Lucia Carmena .
At No. 2 doubles, Anastasi Iakovlieva and Yasmina Mayer were equally sharp, delivering a 6–0 win against Eva Guta and Xaviera Melgar to lock up the doubles point for DSU .
The No. 3 doubles match went down as a no-result due to WNMU not fielding a full pair.
Delta State quickly closed out the match with dominant singles play.
At No. 3 singles, Mayer cruised to a 6–0, 6–1 victory over Xaviera Melgar, giving DSU its second point of the afternoon .
Lena Kuehn followed with another straight-set win at No. 5, defeating Sofija Krstic 6–1, 6–1 to push the lead to 3–0 .
The match was officially clinched at No. 6 singles, where Angie Moreno earned a win by forfeit as Western New Mexico was unable to field a player on that court .
With the team victory secured, the remaining singles matches at courts 1, 2, and 4 were left unfinished.
The Lady Statesmen continue their early-season momentum, finishing their road trip in Texas Sunday morning with a match up against the University of Texas Permian Basin at 10:00 a.m., from the UTD Tennis Complex.
