Lady Statesmen stay unbeaten with 4-0 win over UT Permian Basin

RICHARDSON, Texas — The Delta State University women's tennis continued its strong start to the 2026 season on Saturday, earning a 4-0 sweep over UT Permian Basin at the UTD Tennis Complex. The Lady Statesmen improve to 4-0 overall with the victory.

Delta State secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Amelia Ciesielczyk and Trinity Ly battled to a 6-4 win over Fanny Bergstrom and Sophia Rashid. The Lady Statesmen followed with a dominant performance at No. 2 doubles, where Anastasiia Iakovlieva and Yasmina Mayer rolled to a 6-2 victory against Mattea Bowe and Dinethya Dharmaratne. UTPB claimed the No. 3 doubles match, 6-4, but DSU had already locked up the early advantage.

In singles play, Delta State wasted little time closing out the match. Ciesielczyk set the tone at No. 1 singles with a straight-sets win, 6-4, 6-2, over Dharmaratne. Ly followed with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles to push the lead to 3-0.

Lena Kuehn clinched the match for the Lady Statesmen at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-4, 7-5 win over Alyssa Glasgow to seal the 4-0 decision.

Three other singles matches went unfinished after the match was decided. Yasmina Mayer was locked in a competitive battle at No. 3 singles, while Iakovlieva (No. 4) and Angie Moreno (No. 6) were also in action when play was halted.

Delta State will look to carry its momentum forward as the Lady Statesmen continue non-conference play next week with a match Wednesday afternoon against Spring Hill College.
