RICHARDSON, Texas – The
Delta State University women's tennis team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion Friday, earning a pair of 4-2 victories over
Southeastern Oklahoma State and
UT Dallas at the UTD Tennis Complex to move to 2-0 on the year.
Delta State began the day with a resilient performance against Southeastern Oklahoma. After dropping the doubles point, the Lady Statesmen responded by winning four singles matches to secure the comeback victory.
Amelia Ciesielczyk delivered a straight-set win at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2), while
Anastasiia Iakovlieva added a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 4.
Lena Kuehn followed with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 5, and
Angie Moreno sealed the 4-2 decision with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6.
The Lady Statesmen carried that momentum into the afternoon matchup with UT Dallas. Delta State captured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 doubles (6-4) and No. 3 doubles (6-3) before closing the match in singles play. Ciesielczyk rallied for a three-set victory at No. 1 singles (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), while
Yasmina Mayer earned a straight-set win at No. 3 (6-3, 6-2) and Iakovlieva secured the clincher at No. 4 (6-4, 6-3) to complete another 4-2 team victory.
Across the doubleheader, Delta State showcased strong depth in singles competition, collecting seven individual wins and overcoming an early doubles deficit in the opener before controlling the second match from the start.
With the pair of road victories, the Lady Statesmen build early momentum heading into the remainder of their non-conference schedule as they continue the opening stretch of the 2026 campaign with a match tomorrow afternoon against the Mustangs from Western New Mexico at 3:30 p.m., from the UTD Tennis Complex.
