RICHARDSON, Texas – The Delta State University men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, blanking UT Permian Basin, 4-0, at the UTD Tennis Complex. The Statesmen improved to 3-1 on the season with the convincing neutral-site victory.
Delta State set the tone early in doubles play, claiming the crucial point with wins on courts two and three. The duo of
Juan Diego Alzate and
Alejandro Bravo controlled their match at No. 2 doubles, cruising to a 6-1 victory.
Valentin Greco and
Simon Ojeda followed with a strong showing at No. 3 doubles, matching that 6-1 scoreline to secure the opening point for the Statesmen.
In singles action, Delta State continued its momentum with three straight-set victories to clinch the match. Greco was sharp at No. 3 singles, defeating Nehal Naidoo 6-4, 6-3 to extend the Statesmen lead.
Marti Cerda Castillo followed with a dominant performance on court four, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Alejandro Bravo sealed the match for Delta State at No. 5 singles, overpowering Andrew Hunsley with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Several other matches were left unfinished after the Statesmen secured the team win.
The Statesmen will look to carry their momentum into their next match as they continue their early-season slate with a neutral site match against the Badgers from Spring Hill College on Wednesday, February 18
th in Clinton.
