PENSACOLA, Fla. — Delta State picked up multiple top-three finishes Thursday at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Conference Championships, including a runner-up showing in the 100-yard butterfly and a silver medal in the 400-yard individual medley.
Sophomore
Kacper Mochnal led the Statesmen in the 100 fly, finishing second in
48.75 after qualifying in
48.99. Freshman
Ashtin Wallace added a B-final score in
50.64, while sophomore
Luis Ploner and sophomore
Carter Foster contributed points from the lower finals.
Junior
Riley Oakes delivered Delta State's top individual performance of the night, placing second in the 400 IM in
3:57.33, an NCAA Division II B-cut. Oakes held
1:51.15 at the 200-yard mark before closing in
27.78 on the final 50. Senior
Neill Mauss added a B-final win in
4:09.87, and sophomore
Eudald Tosquella scored from the A-final.
The Statesmen capped off the night taking gold in the 400-yard medley relay with the team of Oakes,
Jacob Hamblen, Mochnal and
Ethan Baylin finishing the race with a time of 3:14.55.
Through 20 events, the Statesmen sit
third with 450.5 points, trailing Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State.
