NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Delta State University men's basketball team fell to a red-hot Trevecca Nazarene University team 83–66 Saturday afternoon at Trojan Fieldhouse. The Trojans shot 56 percent from the floor and piled up 60 points in the paint, pulling away early in the second half to hand the Statesmen their third straight road loss.
Elisha Puckett led DSU with 16 points and seven rebounds, finishing 7-of-14 from the field.
Brendan Braddix added 14 points and five boards off the bench, while freshman guard
Jackson Twombly provided a late spark with 13 points in under nine minutes, including a pair of threes.
Delta State hung within striking distance for much of the first half, taking a 15–13 lead on a
Bryce Clayton three at the 11:12 mark. But Trevecca responded with a 26–10 run to close the period, fueled by Da'Shon Fisher's relentless downhill scoring and Fred Bailey's activity on the glass. The Trojans carried a 39–31 advantage into halftime.
The second half belonged entirely to Trevecca. Fisher finished with a game-high 24 points on 12-of-14 shooting, repeatedly getting to the rim in transition. Justin Bass added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and Bailey posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Trojans outscored DSU 44–35 after the break and led by as many as 27.
Delta State struggled to match TNU's pace, surrendering 37 fast-break points and 16 points off turnovers. The Statesmen shot 38 percent overall and 28 percent from three (11-of-39), despite solid bench production that accounted for 36 of the team's 66 points.
The loss drops DSU to 10–16 (7–14 GSC) with one game remaining in the regular season. The Statesmen return home next week with a win and you're in game against the Choctaws from Mississippi College Friday evening at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
