MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Delta State University men's tennis team improved to 5–2 with a 4–1 win over Southwest Baptist, taking the doubles point and adding three straight-set victories in singles to close out the match at Live Oak Tennis Courts in Magnolia, Ark.
The Statesmen grabbed the early edge with wins on courts one and three.
Marti Cerda Castillo and
Valentino Millimaci outlasted SBU 7–5 at No. 1, while
Juan Diego Alzate and
Joaquin Jarochevsky cruised 6–1 at No. 3.
In singles, SBU evened the match with a win at the top spot, but Delta State quickly regained control.
Valentin Greco handled No. 3 singles 6–4, 6–2, and Cerda Castillo followed with a dominant 6–0, 6–2 performance on court four. Alzate clinched the match at No. 2, rallying for a 2–6, 6–3, 6–2 victory. Courts five and six went unfinished.
The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow as they will take on the Muleriders from Southern Arkansas University. That match will start at 11:00 a.m. (CT) from the Live Oak Tennis Courts.
