MAGNOLIA, Ark. — The Delta State University women's tennis team earned a 5–2 road win over Southern Arkansas University on Sunday at the Live Oak Tennis Courts, securing the doubles point and adding four singles victories to move to 7–1 on the season.
DSU opened the match by taking two of the three doubles courts.
Anastasiia Iakovlieva and
Yasmina Mayer delivered a 6–4 win at No. 2, and
Lena Kuehn and
Angie Moreno followed with a dominant 6–1 result at No. 3 to clinch the point. SAU answered with a 6–4 decision at No. 1.
In singles,
Trinity Ly set the tone with a huge three-set victory at No. 1, outlasting Jolina Mass 7–6, 2–6, 6–1.
Amelia Ciesielczyk added a straight-set win at No. 2, defeating Isabella Lazzerini 6–2, 6–4. Iakovlieva extended the DSU lead with a 7–5, 6–3 win on court four, and Moreno closed out the match with a 6–1, 6–1 performance at No. 6.
Southern Arkansas earned points at No. 3 and No. 5 singles.
Delta State returns to action next week as the Lady Statesmen continue their non-conference slate with a neutral site match with no. 18 Lynn University in Ridgeland, Miss., Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
