RIDGELAND, Miss. — The No. 41 Delta State University women's tennis team fell 4-0 to Lynn University on Friday afternoon at the Ridgeland Tennis Center.
Lynn took early control of the match by securing the doubles point. The Fighting Knights earned a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles as Carla Galmiche and Kristen Younes defeated
Amelia Ciesielczyk and
Trinity Ly. Lynn followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, where Meadow Garcia and Haley Lizano topped
Lena Kuehn and
Angie Moreno to claim the opening point.
In singles play, Lynn added to its lead with a straight-sets win at the top position. Salma Djoubri defeated
Trinity Ly 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Haley Lizano pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over
Angie Moreno at the No. 6 spot.
The match-clinching point came at No. 5 singles as Lea Cakarevic rallied after dropping the first set to defeat
Lena Kuehn 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Several matches went unfinished after the clinching point.
Yasmina Mayer held a one-set advantage at No. 3 singles, while Anastasi Iakovlieva won the opening set at No. 4 before play was halted.
With the loss, Delta State moves to 7-2 on the season. The Lady Statesmen will look to bounce back as they continue their spring break road trip with a neutral site GSC match Sunday afternoon against the Blazers from Valdosta State University at the UWF Tennis Complex.
