CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta State University men's tennis rolled to a dominant 7–0 sweep of Alcorn State on Friday afternoon at the Cleveland Country Club, improving to 6–6 on the season.
The Statesmen controlled every court from start to finish, taking all three doubles matches before sweeping six straight-set victories in singles play.
Marti Cerda Castillo and
Valentin Greco set the tone early with a 6–2 win on the top doubles court, while
Juan Diego Alzate and
Joaquin Jarochevsky followed with a 6–1 result at No. 3. The sweep was completed when
Alejandro Bravo and
Simon Ojeda blanked their opponents 6–0 at No. 2.
In singles, Cerda Castillo delivered a commanding 6–1, 6–2 victory at No. 1, and Greco matched him with a 6–0, 6–2 win on court two. Ojeda battled through a tight first set before closing out a 7–5, 6–2 decision at No. 3.
Bravo cruised to a 6–3, 6–1 win at No. 5, while Alzate posted a 7–5, 6–0 result on court four. Jarochevsky capped the sweep with a 7–5, 6–2 victory at No. 6.
Delta State returns to action next week as the Statesmen go back into GSC play against the Choctaws from Mississippi College Tuesday afternoon.
