CLINTON, Miss. — The Delta State University men's tennis team fell 6–1 on Tuesday afternoon to No. 11 Mississippi College at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Statesmen earned their point at No. 3 singles, where
Juan Diego Alzate rallied for a three-set win. After dropping the opening set, Alzate answered with a 7–5 second set and controlled the super tiebreak to close out a
2–6, 7–5, 10–5 victory.
Delta State also collected a doubles win at No. 3, with
Joaquin Jarochevsky and Alzate pairing for a
6–2 result. Mississippi College secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two.
MC added straight-set singles victories at Nos. 1, 2, 4, and 6. At No. 5,
Alejandro Bravo forced a deciding super tiebreak before falling
4–6, 6–2, 10–3.
At the top of the lineup,
Marti Cerda Castillo faced nationally ranked No. 46 Mattia Ricci, with Ricci earning a 6–2, 6–2 decision.
Delta State moves to 6–7 overall and 0–4 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Statesmen will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Montgomery to take on the Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery Friday afternoon.
