MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Delta State University Men's Tennis team earned singles victories at the top two positions but dropped a 5–2 decision to No. 45 Auburn Montgomery on Friday at the AUM Tennis Complex.
AUM claimed the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 2, taking a 7–6 (6) decision at the top spot and a 6–3 result on Court 2. Delta State answered with a 7–6 (9) victory at No. 3, but the Warhawks carried the 1–0 lead into singles.
In singles action,
Marti Cerda Castillo delivered a three-set win at No. 1, defeating Giuseppe Bonaiuti 6–3, 3–6, 6–3.
Juan Diego Alzate matched that effort on Court 3 with a 6–4, 3–6, 6–3 victory.
AUM secured the match with wins at the remaining four positions.
Valentin Greco pushed both sets to tiebreaks before falling 7–6 (11), 7–6 (11) at No. 2.
Alejandro Bravo dropped a 6–4, 6–4 decision on Court 4, while
Simon Ojeda fell 6–3, 5–7, 6–1 at No. 5.
Valentino Millimaci closed the day with a 6–2, 6–4 loss at No. 6.
Delta State finishes their road trip tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Tigers from Tuskegee University.
