CLINTON, Miss. — The Delta State women's tennis team dropped a 7–0 decision to No. 6 Mississippi College on Tuesday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex, as the Lady Statesmen fell to 7–5 overall and 0–4 in Gulf South Conference play.
MC opened the match by taking the doubles point with 6–1 wins on courts one and two.
Amelia Ciesielczyk and
Trinity Ly fell at the top spot, while Anastasi Iakovlieva and
Lena Kuehn were defeated on court two. Play on court three was left unfinished with
Yasmina Mayer and
Angie Moreno trailing 5–1.
The Choctaws carried that momentum into singles, sweeping all six courts. Ciesielczyk dropped a 6–0, 6–2 result at No. 1, and Ly fell 6–4, 6–0 at No. 2. Mayer battled in both sets at No. 3 before falling 6–4, 6–3.
Iakovlieva forced a first-set tiebreak at No. 4 but came up short 7–6 (8), 6–0, 10–1. Moreno fell 6–2, 6–0 at No. 5, and Kuehn closed the match with a 7–5, 6–2 loss on court six.
Delta State continues GSC play later this week as the Lady Statesmen remain on the road as they will take on the Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery.
