MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Delta State University Women's Tennis team collected two singles victories but was unable to overcome an early doubles deficit in a 5–2 road loss to Auburn Montgomery on Friday afternoon.
AUM swept the doubles point with wins on all three courts, taking 6–1 and 6–3 decisions at the top two positions before closing out Court 3 by a 6–3 margin.
In singles play, the Lady Statesmen earned strong results at the No. 2 and No. 4 spots.
Amelia Ciesielczyk delivered a straight-set win on Court 2, 6–2, 6–3, while
Anastasiia Iakovlieva battled through a three-set super-tiebreak to claim a 6–2, 6–9, 11–9 victory on Court 4.
AUM secured the match with wins at the remaining four positions.
Trinity Ly fell 6–2, 6–4 at No. 1, and
Yasmina Mayer dropped a 6–3, 6–3 decision on Court 3.
Lena Kuehn was defeated 6–4, 6–0 at No. 5, while
Angie Moreno extended her match to a deciding tiebreak before falling 6–4, 5–7, 10–7 at No. 6.
Delta State returns to action tomorrow with a short trip to Tuskegee to take on the Tigers from Tuskegee University.
