Statesmen Season ends with 75-60 setback at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The Delta State University men's basketball never recovered from West Alabama's early surge and fell 75–60 in the GSC Championship Quarterfinals Monday night at Pruitt Hall. The Tigers led wire to wire, using a dominant interior effort and a decisive rebounding advantage to close their regular season at 25–4 while the Statesmen dropped to 11–17.

West Alabama controlled the paint throughout the night, outscoring Delta State 52–14 inside and collecting 21 second-chance points on 14 offensive rebounds. The Tigers built a 22–9 lead midway through the first half and took a 32–26 advantage into halftime before stretching the margin to as many as 28 with 9:40 remaining.

Je'Marion Westbrook kept Delta State within reach with a career-high 30-point performance, shooting 8 of 16 from the field, 6 of 12 from three and 8 of 8 at the line while playing all 40 minutes. DaCory Porter added 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists, but the Statesmen shot 32.1 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from beyond the arc.

West Alabama countered with 22 points from BJ Brown Jr., who went 10 of 15 from the field, and 19 points from Jakobe Singleton on 7-of-9 shooting. Christian Thompson posted 12 rebounds to help the Tigers finish with a 46–29 edge on the glass.

Delta State made six second-half threes but could not cut the deficit to single digits as West Alabama shot 51.5 percent after halftime and maintained control in transition and around the rim.

Delta State finishes the season with an 11-17 overall record along with three consecutive appearances in the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament.
