TUSKEGEE, Ala. — The Delta State University Men's Tennis team earned a hard-fought 4–3 victory over Tuskegee on Saturday afternoon at the Pepsico Tennis Courts, using four singles wins to secure the road result.
The Statesmen struck first in doubles at the top spot, where
Valentin Greco and Valentino Millimaci rolled to a
6–0 win. Tuskegee answered with wins on courts two and three to take the doubles point and a 1–0 lead.
Delta State quickly responded in singles.
Marti Cerda Castillo dominated at No. 1 with a
6–2, 6–0 victory to even the match. Tuskegee regained the lead with a win at No. 3, but DSU surged ahead with back-to-back points.
Joaquin Jarochevsky delivered a
6–1, 6–3 win at No. 5, and
Valentin Greco rallied for a three-set win at No. 2, taking the final two sets
6–2, 6–3.
Millimaci clinched the match for the Statesmen at No. 4, grinding out a
6–4, 7–5 victory to push DSU ahead 4–2. Tuskegee claimed the final match on court six, but the Statesmen had already secured the team win.
Delta State improves to
7–8 and continues its road swing next week with a trip to Memphis Tuesday to take on the Bucs from Christian Brothers University.
