TUSKEGEE, Ala. — The Delta State University Women's Tennis team picked up its eighth win of the season Saturday, defeating Tuskegee 4–3 behind a doubles sweep and three singles victories at the Pepsico Tennis Courts.
The Lady Statesmen controlled doubles from the start.
Amelia Ciesielczyk and Yasmina Mayer claimed No. 1 with a
6–2 win, and
Anastasi Iakovlieva and Trinity Ly followed with a
6–1 victory at No. 2 to secure the opening point.
Tuskegee evened the match with a three-set win at No. 1 singles, but DSU regained momentum when
Yasmina Mayer posted a
6–3, 6–4 win at No. 3.
Lena Kuehn extended the lead at No. 5 after her opponent retired in the second set.
Tuskegee earned points at No. 2 and No. 6 to tighten the match, but
Anastasiia Iakovlieva delivered the clincher at No. 4, winning
6–4, 7–5 to seal the 4–3 result.
Delta State moves to
8–6 and returns to action next week in Gulf South Conference play against Christian Brothers Tuesday morning.
