Statesmen Earn First Conference Win against Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Delta State University men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Christian Brothers, 6-1, at the Leftwich Tennis Center.

The Statesmen improved to 8-8 on the season with the victory, bouncing back in impressive fashion by sweeping all six singles matches after dropping the doubles point.

Christian Brothers claimed the early 1-0 advantage by taking all three doubles courts. Delta State's top duo of Marti Cerda Castillo and Simon Ojeda fell 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while the pairs of Alejandro Bravo/Valentin Greco and Juan Diego Alzate/Joaquin Jarochevsky were each defeated 6-4 at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Delta State quickly flipped the momentum in singles play, showcasing depth and control across the lineup.

Cerda Castillo led the charge at No. 1 singles with a 7-5, 6-2 victory, while Greco followed with a straight-sets win (6-4, 6-3) at No. 2. Alzate dominated his match at No. 3, earning a 6-0, 6-4 decision.

Bravo continued the strong showing at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win, and Ojeda cruised at No. 5 with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 performance. Jarochevsky capped the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

The Statesmen's clean sweep in singles secured the 6-1 team victory and highlighted a complete turnaround after doubles play.

Delta State will look to carry this momentum into its next match as the Statesmen will host no. 42 Harding University Friday at the Cleveland Country Club.
