HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Delta State University baseball team completed a three-game Gulf South Conference sweep of UAH on Saturday, capping the series with a 6-4 comeback victory at Charger Park.
The Statesmen (17-13, 12-8 GSC) used a four-run seventh inning to erase a late deficit and secure the series finale after taking the first two games earlier in the day.
UAH (13-17, 9-11 GSC) held a 4-2 lead heading into the final inning, but Delta State capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting to surge in front.
Peyton Badon reached and moved into scoring position before
Tucker Jones delivered a two-RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.
Jacob Palazzo followed with an RBI single to give DSU the lead, and
Austin Batts added an insurance run with an RBI knock to push the advantage to 6-4.
Jones led the offensive effort, driving in two runs, while Palazzo added a pair of hits and an RBI. Batts was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI, and
Landon Holliman chipped in two hits and a run scored.
On the mound,
Dawson Muenzenmay (4-1) earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings to close out the game.
Mason Shropshire got the start, allowing four runs—none earned—over five innings while striking out six.
Earlier in the day, Delta State powered past the Chargers 10-3 behind a 14-hit performance to secure the series win.
Tucker Jones paced the offense with four hits and four RBI, while
Landon Holliman and
Levi Lang each recorded multi-hit efforts.
Blake King (2-2) earned the win, tossing seven innings.
After dropping the opening game of the series, the Statesmen responded with three straight victories to complete the sweep and gain momentum in GSC play.
Delta State returns to action next week as they return to Ferriss Field to face the Reddies from Henderson State University on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m..
