Lady Statesmen Sweep Henderson State Behind Dominant Pitching and Timely Offense

CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State softball delivered its most complete day of the season, sweeping Henderson State in Wednesday's doubleheader at University Field. The Lady Statesmen rode a pair of standout pitching performances and a surge of timely hitting to take Game 1, 4–2, before erupting for an 8–0 run-rule victory in Game 2.

Game 1: Delta State 4, Henderson State 2
Maeve Lavoy went the distance and the offense capitalized late as Delta State opened the afternoon with a 4–2 win.

Lavoy scattered 10 hits but allowed just two runs, striking out two and walking one over seven innings. She induced 10 groundouts and eight flyouts while improving to 3–1 on the year.

At the plate, Kyleigh Wheaton powered the offense with a 2-for-3 effort, including a pair of doubles and two RBI. Her run-scoring double in the third put DSU ahead 1–0, and she added another RBI double in the fifth to extend the lead.

Carly Dunigan and Ally Agner each drove in runs, with Agner adding two hits and a stolen base. Joryie McKnight scored twice and collected two hits, including a leadoff single that sparked DSU's two-run third inning.

Delta State finished with seven hits while committing no errors defensively.

Game 2: Delta State 8, Henderson State 0 (5 inn.)
The Lady Statesmen completed the sweep in emphatic fashion, piling up 13 hits and scoring in three straight innings to secure an 8–0 run-rule victory.

Kendal Moore was dominant in the circle, tossing a five-inning shutout while allowing just four hits. She struck out two and stranded six Reddies to improve to 2–3 on the season.

Offensively, Carly Dunigan delivered a career day, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a two-run single in the third and a two-run double in the fourth that broke the game open.

Mary Teague added a 3-for-3 performance with an RBI and a hit-by-pitch, while Kyleigh Wheaton went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Rylie Leonard chipped in two hits and scored twice.

Delta State's five-run fourth inning put the game out of reach, highlighted by Dunigan's two-run double and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Hallie Turner.
