PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Delta State University women's tennis team picked up two singles victories but could not overcome an early doubles deficit in a 5–2 loss to Valdosta State University on Monday at the UWF Tennis Complex.
VSU claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The Lady Statesmen responded in singles behind a three-set comeback from
Trinity Ly at No. 1, rallying for a 4–6, 6–3, 6–3 victory.
Yasmina Mayer added a straight-set win at No. 3, taking her match 6–3, 6–3.
Valdosta State controlled the remaining courts, including a competitive three-set battle at No. 4, where
Anastasiia Iakovlieva forced a deciding tiebreak before falling.
Delta State moves to 7–3 overall and will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon against the Argonauts from the University of West Florida.
