Statesmen Walk-Off Weevils in Extra Inning Thriller

CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta State University baseball team outlasted Arkansas-Monticello in an 11-inning thriller Tuesday night, walking it off 8-7 at Ferriss Field.

The Statesmen (21-15) rallied in the bottom of the 11th, as Tucker Jones delivered the game-winning hit with a two-run double to right-center, scoring Austin Estes and Henley Parker to cap the comeback victory and complete the season series win against UAM.

Delta State struck first with two runs in the opening inning, capitalizing on UAM errors, but the Weevils responded and briefly took a 3-2 lead in the third. Levi Lang answered immediately for DSU with a solo home run to even the score at 3-3.

The Statesmen regained control with a two-run fourth inning highlighted by RBI singles from Cooper Walls and Jacob Hill, then added another run in the sixth to build a 6-3 advantage.

Arkansas-Monticello (24-12) fought back in the seventh, scoring three runs—two coming on a throwing error—to tie the game at 6-6 and force extra innings. The Weevils took a 7-6 lead in the top of the 11th before Delta State mounted its final rally.

Jones paced the offense with two hits and a team-high two RBIs, including the walk-off. Lang added two hits and an RBI, while Walls scored twice and drove in a run. Estes also crossed the plate twice in the win.

On the mound, Dawson Muenzenmay (5-1) earned the win after recording the final out in the top of the 11th. Delta State used five pitchers in the contest, with Aidan McCrady providing a key four-inning relief effort to keep DSU within striking distance.

Delta State finished with eight runs on nine hits, while Arkansas-Monticello totaled seven runs on nine hits in the extra-inning battle.

The Statesmen return to action next as they continue Gulf South Conference play on the road this weekend against the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University.
