Statesmen Fall to Mustangs 2-0

CONWAY, Ark.- The Delta State men's soccer team dropped its road match Saturday evening, falling 2–0 to Central Baptist College at Centennial Soccer Park in West Conway.

Delta State's attack grew steadily throughout the match, producing seven total shots and four on target. Junior Villalba-Martinez forced a save in the 14th minute, while Ajay Stewart and Danny Vargas each put attempts on frame in the second half. Mills Sheridan added two shots, including a header in the 83rd minute that sailed high.

The Mustangs struck twice in the opening 18 minutes and held off a strong second-half push from the Statesmen, who generated nine corner kicks after halftime but couldn't break through.

CBC opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Archie Woodall converted a penalty kick to make it 1–0. Six minutes later, Zeke Smith doubled the advantage, finishing a feed from Jack McNamara at 18:05. Delta State goalkeeper

Aidan Hayes, who played the full 90 minutes, kept the match within reach with three saves — including stops in the 19th, 54th, and 61st minutes — but the early deficit held.

The Statesmen controlled much of the second-half possession, earning nine corners after the break — part of 13 overall — but CBC goalkeeper Maxwell Kruit posted a four-save shutout.

Delta State was shown two yellow cards in the closing stages, issued to Joshua Diaz at 79:46 and Francisco Carrasco at 90:00.

With the loss, Delta State moves to 1–1–0 on the season. The Statesmen return home next week to continue non-conference play as they will host Florida Southern College on Friday at 3:30 p.m., from Delta Field
