ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Delta State University men's soccer team battled to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Ouachita Baptist University on Tuesday afternoon at Kluck Field in Arkadelphia.
The Statesmen (1-1-1) controlled much of the attacking play, outshooting the Tigers 12-10 and holding a 10-6 advantage in corner kicks, but were unable to break through despite consistent pressure, especially in the second half.
After a quiet opening period that saw limited chances for both sides, Delta State came out aggressive after the break, firing 10 shots over the final 45 minutes.
Ajay Stewart led the Statesmen with four shots, while
Ricky Chagala added two attempts, including a pair of chances on goal.
Ouachita Baptist's goalkeeper Isaac Murie made four saves on the afternoon, denying several strong opportunities from the Statesmen, including late looks from
Romario Castro and Stewart. On the other end, Delta State goalkeeper
Daniel Santema was solid in net, recording two saves across 90 minutes to secure his second clean sheet of the season.
Defensively, the Statesmen were organized throughout, limiting the Tigers to just two shots on goal. The back line, anchored by
Micah Soper,
Ivan Gomez, and
Cole Fenton, played a key role in preserving the shutout.
The match featured a physical tone, with 25 combined fouls and multiple cautions issued between the two sides.
Delta State will look to build on the result as they continue their early-season slate in the next match.
