LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The Delta State University men's soccer team fell 4-0 to West Alabama Wednesday night at the UWA Track and Soccer Complex.
The Statesmen (2-6-1, 0-3-0 GSC) held West Alabama scoreless through the opening 25 minutes before the Tigers broke through in the 26th minute. David Nunez put West Alabama ahead with his ninth goal of the season, assisted by Florian Laot.
West Alabama added to its advantage in the 39th minute when Daniele Ciarlesi found the back of the net off an assist from Nunez, sending the Tigers into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Daniel Santema kept the Statesmen within striking distance, making four saves on the night, including two in each half.
The Tigers extended their lead in the 62nd minute when Oisin Griffin scored his second goal of the season. West Alabama added its fourth goal in the 73rd minute as Nunez scored again, this time assisted by Jesper Bakli.
Delta State was held to one shot in the match, a first-half attempt from
Matthew Nicklas that was blocked. The Statesmen earned two corner kicks and finished with nine fouls.
West Alabama controlled possession 57 percent to 43 percent and held a 15-1 advantage in shots, including an 8-0 edge in shots on goal.
Santema finished with four saves for the Statesmen, while West Alabama goalkeeper Dan Erez recorded the shutout without a save.
Delta State returns to action with its next match as the Statesmen continue Gulf South Conference play this Saturday against Montevallo for Senior Day at Delta Field.
