Jonathan Fletcher

Jonathan Fletcher enters his 13th season on the Delta State University football staff and serves as the Run Game Coordinator/and Offensive Line coach after previously serving serving as tight ends/H-backs, running backs and strength and conditioning coach.  

The 2024 offensive line continued to impress on the ground, with a total of 1830 rushing yards on 383 attempts on the season. The team is averaging 4.8 yards per carry and has scored 18 touchdowns. Leading the way for the Statesmen is Kelvin Smith, who has rushed for 736 yards on 138 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Smith has also scored 6 touchdowns.

Other notable rushers include Tamaj Hoffman, who has rushed for 259 yards on 64 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per carry.

The Statesmen’s rushing attack has been a key factor in their success this season. They are averaging 183 rushing yards per game, which ranks among the best in the conference.


Jonathan’s 2023 offensive line had a successful season, rushing for over 2,700 yards. The team is led again by running back Kelvin Smith who rushed 907 yards on 149 carries. The team has also had strong performances from Christian Malloy who gained 622 yards on 123 carries.

Fletcher's 2022 offensive line rushed for 2970 yards this season, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. The team was led by running back Kelvin Smith who rushed for 546 yards on 9 carries, averaging 5.5  yards per carry. The team’s rushing attack was a key factor in their success this season. The team was able to control the clock and keep their opponents’ offenses off the field. The team’s rushing attack was also a key factor in their ability to score points.

In the 2021 season, Fletcher’s offensive line was again led by Rico Owens averaging 50.09 yards a game and Deion Dampier averaging 62.09 yards per game on the ground.

The 2019 season marked his first year as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator. Fletcher's offensive line paved the way for a rushing attack that ranked third in the GSC with 197.5 yards per game. The 'thunder and lightning duo' of Rico Owens and Deion Dampier ranked second and 10th in the GSC averaging 69.7 and 52.5 yards per game on the ground, respectively. Owens and Dampier joined starting center Innis Claud V as All-GSC selections on offense.

In 2017, Fletcher coached LaDarion Peterson, who was named Second-Team All-GSC and set a new career kick return yardage record of 1,786 yards. Fletcher also coached Chris Robinson, who was a two time All American, All-Conference, Conerly Trophy finalists, and Harlon Hill Trophy nominee. 

Prior to joining the DSU staff, Fletcher served as the assistant offensive line/tight ends coach at Presentation College in 2012 en route to a 1,200-yard rushing season, in only the program's second year. He also served as an intern with the strength and conditioning coach for Mount Saint Joseph University's football team in 2011 and assistant hitting coach for the Knox College baseball team in 2012.
 
Fletcher was awarded Knox College’s Dean S. Trevor Memorial Award in 2012 and was a two-sport athlete as a four-year letterman for the baseball team and a three-year letterman for the football team, while earning his Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education Social Sciences.

In the spring of 2014, Fletcher completed his strength and conditioning certification through USA Weightlifting, the official certification program of the United States Olympic Training Committee.

Fletcher is married to the former Caroline George, of Selmer, Tenn. The two were married on May 20, 2017 and currently reside in Cleveland.
