Todd Cooley has announced the addition of
Kendrick Wade to the team's coaching staff. Wade, a Cleveland, Miss. native, will coach the wide receivers for the Statesmen.
Prior to joining the #DSUFamily, Wade coached the wide receivers group and was the passing game coordinator at Ft. Valley State.
Wade's previous tops also include Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, where he developed talent such as receiver Rashad Brown, who had a breakout season and was named to the All-GPAC Team under Wade's tutelage.
Prior to Briar Cliff University, Wade returned to his alma mater, Mississippi Valley State University, to coach the wide receivers in 2017. In his first year, Wade helped groom wide receiver Quinn McElfresh into the Southwestern Athletic Conference leading wide receiver in receptions per game and second in receiving yards per contest. McElfresh was named SWAC Newcomer of the Year and earned All-SWAC seocnd team honors for his breakout season. Another notable playmaker Wade coached was Steven McIntosh, who ranked eighth (rec/game) in the SWAC.
In his second year, Wade helped groom wide receiver/return specialist Booker T. Chamber into one of the most dynamic playmakers in the nation, where he ranked seventh in the nation in all-purpose yards for the 2018 season. Chambers was a Conerly Trophy Finalist (top college football player in Mississippi) and was named an FCS (D1-AA) All-American. Chambers also earned All-SWAC First Team as a return specialist & All-SWAC Second Team as a wide receiver.
In 2014, Coach Wade was named as the first head football coach at Middle College High School in Memphis, Tenn. Wade also served as the head track coach, Athletic Director, & Administrative Assistant at Maxine Smith STEAM Academy from 2014-2017. In 2016, the Middle College High School football team was named Fox 13 (Memphis) Team of the Week after starting the season 4-0 and averaging (40.0) points per game. In Wade's third year as head coach at MCHS, his team had finished every season with a winning record and made playoff appearances.
From 2010-2014, Wade could be located standing on the sidelines as the head football and head track coach for Fairview Middle School in Memphis, Tenn. During his time at Fairview, Wade taught Physical Education, while he also served as a regional scout/evaluator for the Tennessee Future Stars from 2011-2017.
During his playing days at Mississippi Valley State University, Wade was named MVSU Most Outstanding wide receiver in 2004 and broke the school record for longest receiving touchdown in school history (82 yards' vs Grambling). In 2016, Wade was named to MVSU's All-Decade Football Team (2000-2010).
Prior to joining the Delta Devil football team, Wade was a standout performer in both baseball and football at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, Miss. As a sophomore, Wade was named Coahoma Community College Most Valuable Player (football) and was selected to play in the Junior College All-Star game.
Wade, a native of Cleveland, Miss., is a graduate of East Side High in Cleveland, Miss., was a two-sport standout and named All-District in both baseball and football for the East Side High School Trojans.
After completing his playing days at MVSU, Wade played four years of Arena football in Texas & Arkansas.
Wade is a two-time Mississippi Valley State University graduate, earned his Master of Science degree in Sports Administration (May 2018) and a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation (May 2007). Wade also earned an Associate of Arts in Athletic Administration and Coaching from Coahoma Community College in May 2002.
