John Redman

John Redman joined the Delta State University men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in August 2018. He enters his fifth season with the program and the fourth under head coach Mike Nienaber. 

The Spanish Ft., Ala., native comes to the Delta after seven years coaching at the NAIA level, which included three years at Spring Hill College, three years at Dalton State College and one year at the University of Mobile. He also spent one season as the head boys’ basketball coach at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Ala.

Upon graduating from SHC,  he accepted a job with Dalton State College in Dalton, Ga., where he played an instrumental role in starting the program from scratch. During their inaugural season in 2013-14, Dalton State finished 26-4 but was not ineligible for post-season play. 

In only the second year of existence and their first season of conference and postseason eligibility in 2014-15, the Roadrunners captured the SSAC Regular Season Championship and the 2015 NAIA National Championship in Kansas City, Mo.  

Redman moved back to Mobile accepting the position of head boys’ basketball coach at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in 2016-17. In his lone year at St. Paul’s, Redman was in charge of six teams (5th/6th/7th/8th/JV/Varsity) with a young varsity team that battled injuries all year, finishing 11-12. 

In, 2017-18, Redman moved back up to the college ranks as an assistant coach at the University of Mobile.  

Redman received his bachelor's degree from Spring Hill College in 2013, where he transitioned from a student-athlete into an assistant coach, spending three years working for the Badgers.  

He is married to the former Lesley Sommer Boyd of Mobile.
