Chelsey Rhodes

Chelsey Rhodes enters her fourth year a full-time assistant coach on the Delta State University women’s basketball staff.

Rhodes was key in helping the Lady Statesmen to a runner-up finish in the Gulf South Conference Women's Basketball Tournament while notching a 23-7 overall record and 13-7 mark in the GSC. Under her tutelage, the Lady Statesmen ranked third in scoring defense (62.4 ppg.) and four in steal per game (9.33) in the GSC.

Senior guard Nia Johnson ranked ninth in the GSC in scoring (16.1 ppg.), ninth in the steals per game (2.2) and 15th in assists (2.6) while fellow senior Ernesha Chatman finished fourth in assists (4.4), and 11th in steals (2.0).

The Monticello, Ark., native comes back to Delta State after four years of playing for the Lady Statesmen and one year of coaching at the University of Central Arkansas as a graduate assistant under former Lady Statesmen Head Coach Sandra Rushing.

Rhodes helped the Bears to a 25-10 record and the team to a runner-up finish in the Women’s Basketball Invitational in 2018. She also worked for the Beacon Wellness Center in Ruleville, Miss., and the Head of the Class Child Development Center in Monticello, Ark.

Chelsey Rhodes had a distinctive playing career at Delta State. In her freshman year she Helped guide Delta State to a 21-10 record, a regular season GSC title and the NCAA Sweet 16...Played in 31 games with 29 starts at guard for the Lady Statesmen...Averaged 11.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

During her sophomore year she played and started in 27 games for the Green-and-White...Led the Lady Statesmen to a GSC Regular Season title and DSU's 25th appearance in the NCAA South Region tournament...Offensive leader for Delta State, averaging 14.3 points per game and finished the season ranked 7th in the league in scoring...Averaged 1.9 rebounds per game...Shot 42.6 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from downtown...Eclipsed 400, 500, 600, and 700-career points just this season. 

In her junior year she started all 29 games at shooting guard for the Lady Statesmen...Led the Lady Statesmen to a 19-10 record and a berth in the GSC title game...Averaged a team and career-high 15.7 points per game...Scored 455 points, the fifth most in the GSC...Ranked sixth in the GSC in scoring...Ranked second in the GSC in free throw percentage (82.4) and was fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (36.5)...Her 58 made 3-pointers ranked fourth in the GSC as well.

In her final year for the Green-and-White she played and started all 29 games...led the GSC in scoring (20.8 ppg.6th NCAA), field goals made (197/34th NCAA), field goal attempts (516), and free throw percentage (84.0/47th NCAA)...ranked second in the GSC in free throws made (152/12th NCAA), free throw attempts (181/29th NCAA), steals (71/38th NCAA), steals per game (2.45 spg./33 NCAA), and minutes played per game (37.1/13th NCAA)
