Tyler Roden is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Delta State University women’s basketball program. Roden’s coaching duties include guard development, strength and conditioning, opponent scouting, team travel and team social media.
Roden comes to the Delta after spending the 2014-15 season as the Head Girls Coach at Archbishop McCarthy School in Southwest Ranches, Florida. During his one season with Archbishop McCarthy finished third in the region behind to national top 100 teams while two players earned First-Team All-District.
Before his one season at McCarthy, Roden was the Head Girls Coach at Lyman High School in Longwood, Fla in 2013-14. He coached LHS to a school record nine conference wins and Micah Garvin was named the Seminole Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Two players earned First-Team All-Conference honors and two signed scholarships with NCAA institutions.
Roden spent from 2011-2013 as the Head Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach at the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala. Roden duties included recruiting coordinator, strength and conditioning coach, opponent scouting, academic coordinator, and fundraising. The Tigers made the Gulf South Conference tournament for just the second time in 20 years during his tenure.
Roden served as a graduate assistant for the the Tigers women’s team from 2010-11 before moving to men’s team. Roden handled strength and conditioning and guard development. UWA posted an 18-9 record, including a win over top ranked Arkansas Tech. Mystee Dale became the first NCAA All-American in school history while garnering GSC and NCAA South Region Player of the year laurels. Additionally, two guards were named All-GSC and was apart of signing eight players that were a key part of the 2012 GSC Women’s Championship squad.
Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Roden served as assistant girls and head ninth grade coach at Buckhorn High School in New Market, Alabama.
Roden received his B.S. degree in mathematics with minor in history from the University of West Alabama in 2009. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business administration.
Roden is married to the former Brandi Roe of Jackson, Alabama. The couple has one son, Press.
