Veronica Walker, a senior All-American on the Delta State University Lady Statesmen Basketball team, garners this week's GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week Award after eclipsing 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career at Delta State this past weekend in games Thursday and Saturday.
Walker, a native of Indianola, Miss., powered the Lady Statesmen to a 56-52 over Valdosta on Thursday night with 18 points. In the game, she eclipsed the 2,000-point total.

On Saturday night, Walker again led the Lady Statesmen to a win, scoring 19 points in a 67-55 victory over West Florida at Sillers Coliseum. However, it was the first of eight rebounds on the night that became the story, as the rebound gave her 1,000 for her career.

Walker is the fourth Lady Statesmen to reach the accomplishment and only the fifth in Gulf South Conference history. She currently sits at 2,026 Points and1,007 rebounds.
Walker and the Lady Statesmen return to action on Thursday, Feb. 9, as DSU travels to West Georgia for a two-game road trip. The team will close out the weekend trip at West Alabama on Feb. 11. Â The games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CST and 4 p.m. CST, respectively.
