Dex Herrington, a senior outfielder on the Delta State University Baseball team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Monday, March 10. Â Herrington is also the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week after his performance in the sweep of Christian Brothers University. Â
Over the course of the weekend series, Herrington went 5-for-12 with three home runs, eight RBI and scored six times as the Statesmen outscored the Bucs 30-1 over three games. Herrington sits fifth in the GSC with a .373 batting average and his home run total, four, has him third in the conference standings.
This is the second time Herrington has been named GoStatesmen.com and GSC Player of the week, previously doing so for the week of February 24, with teammate Brent Langston picking up the same honor last week.
Delta State (10-5, 9-3 GSC) will have a non-conference game this evening when Southern Arkansas visits Ferriss Field at 6pm. The Statesmen return to GSC action this weekend with a series versus Union from Jackson, Tenn., with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
