Chelsey Rhodes, a 5-foot-6 junior guard on the Lady Statesman basketball team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 21. It's Rhodes' third honor this season and the fourth for women's basketball.Â
Rhodes scored a season-high 30 points to lead the Lady Statesmen to a 76-46 victory over Valdosta State on Thursday, Dec. 18 Walter Sillers Coliseum. The Monticello, Arkansas native connected on 10-of-15 shots from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
Rhodes followed up the VSU performance with 15 points in a hard-fought 73-69 overtime loss to West Flordia on Saturday, Dec. 20.Â
The three-year starter is leading the Lady Statesmen in scoring with 15 points per game, while averaging 2.2 rebounds from her shooting guard position.
Rhodes will lead the Lady Statesmen back into action on Saturday, Jan. 3, as Delta State travels to North Alabama. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall in Florence, Alabama.
