Mattia Schirru, a freshman on the Delta State Men's Swimming & Diving team, captures his second CableONE Male Student-Athlete of the Week award after leading the Statesmen to a dominating victory and their second straight title at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships last week at the DSU Aquatics Center.
The Giaveno, Italy native captured three NSISC championships, including the 100-Freestyle with a time of 43.73, nearly two seconds faster than the competition. Schirru won his second freestyle event of the meet when he claimed the 200 in 1:37.87.
Schirru started off the NSISC Championships with a blazing victory in the 50-Freestyle with a time of 20:34. He was also a part of DSU's 800-Free, 200-Free, and 400-Medley relay victories.
In all, the first-year letterman was a part of six NSISC championship winning swims.
