Alex Peach, a redshirt freshman on the Delta State men's swimming and diving team, captures his first CableONE Male Student-Athlete of the Week award after an outstanding performance in the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championships this past week in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Auckland, New Zealand native recorded two runner-up finishes and performed well in the relays for the Statesmen, who took fifth overall for their highest team finish in program history.
In Friday's competition, Peach broke his own school record with a 52.84 to take second place in the 100-Breaststroke. The runner-up finish for Peach marked the best for any DSU swimmer since 2002 NCAA 100-Backstroke Champion Justin Whitaker was the runner-up in the same event the following year.
After finishing as the runner-up in the 100-Breaststroke on Friday, Peach repeated the feat in the 200, breaking his own school record with a 1:54.09.
The team of Fabrice Wendel, Alex Peach, Max Pendall and Mattia Schirru claimed their second straight podium finish in a medley relay, as they swam a DSU record 3:11.91 to finish the 400-Medley relay in fifth place.
