Johnquavious McBride, a senior on the Statesmen football team, has been named the CableOne GoStatesmen.com Male Athlete of the Week after tallying 10 tackles in Delta State's 17-7 win #17 West Georgia.
The Statesmen, who are ranked No. 17 in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll following the win over the Wolves, tallied four sacks on defense and registered 11 tackles for loss.
McBride currently leads the Gulf South Conference in tackles with 25, and helped anchor a defensive unit that held West Georgia's offense, which had score over 38 points per game coming in, to just seven points on the afternoon.
The Statesmen are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Rome, Ga. to take on the Shorter Hawks in a 12 p.m. CT kick. The game will be televised live on ESPN3.
