MONTEVALL0, Ala. – The Statesmen were down four goals at the break and struggled to find any offensive momentum as they fell to Montevallo 5-1 Friday night. The Statesmen fall to 8-7-1 but more importantly, 1-3 in GSC action on the year. The Falcons improve to 10-4 on the year and 4-0 in GSC play. 

Senior Jonathan Maloney was the star of the game for the Falcons, racking up three goals within 40 minutes to give the home team an early 3-0 lead. Senior Jim Witherow added one more before the break to give the home team a 4-0 lead. 

The Statesmen, who were outshot 12-1 in the first half were desperate to get back on the contest with their first GSC Tournament berth on the line. Montevallo made it 5-0 just two minutes into the second half as Milan Pualic found the back of the net as keeper Trey Jones punch failed to clear the area. 

Delta State scored a goal in the 64th minute with a shot from Steven Axe (6), however the comeback ended there. 

Jones finished with five saves on the day as the Statesmen were outshot on the game 22-8. 

The Statesmen remain on the road this Sunday as they take on West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. Kick-off is set 3 p.m.
