PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Statesmen had two good chances to score some goals, but in the end were shutout 3-0 by West Florida Sunday afternoon.
The Statesmen drop their fifth game in their last six and fall to 8-8-1 overall, 1-4 in GSC action while West Florida improves to 10-2-2, 4-1 in conference play.
West Florida scored early in the contest, just two minutes in as Rafael Segal gave the home team the lead. Richard Dimon made it 2-0 before the break. David Horstmann had the best chance to score, but his header was equally matched by keeper Thomas Olmsted.
West Florida continued the offensive threat, outshooting the Statesmen 15-2 in the second half. Matt Williams scored the game winner with 30 minutes left to play.
Trey Jones finished with five saves on the afternoon for the green-and-white.
Delta State will remain on the road this Friday as they take on Alabama-Huntsville in a crucial GSC matchup. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
