Moe Bell racked up a career-high 20 points to help the Delta State women's basketball team pick up their third straight win, as they defeated West Alabama, 67-54, Tuesday at Pruitt Hall. Delta State improves to 4-4 on the season, while the Lady Tigers remain winless at 0-3.
The Lady Statesmen shot 46 percent from the floor in the first half, as both teams shared the lead six times. DSU's biggest lead came, as Bug Cooper found Bell for a three-point jumper to give the green-and-white an eight point lead with 12:41 left to play in the half. West Alabama shot 12-of-27 in the first half, trailing 31-30 at the break.
Delta State came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half, going on a 9-0 run before West Alabama scored their first points. The Lady Statesmen would continue the ambush, leading by as many as 16 to hold on for the 13 point win.
Delta State had two players' top double digits in the game. Bell shot 6-of-11 from three-point range for 20 points and two boards.
LaMaesha McAdory narrowly missed another double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
As a team, the Lady Statesmen shot nearly 50 percent from the floor, while holding West Alabama to a dismal 37 percent shooting. Keiara Middleton and Jenni Thomley were the top scorers for the Lady Tigers finishing with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Delta State will square up with Montevallo on the road Dec. 3 at BankTrust Arena. Tip-off is set for 3p.m.
