Statesmen fall 1-2 to PBA, unbeaten streak snapped

CLEVELAND- The Statesmen scored late in the first half to get back in the game, but chances were hard to come by as they failed to equalize, losing 1-2 to Palm Beach Atlantic Thursday afternoon. The loss snaps their six game unbeaten streak to 5-2-1 on the year while the Sailfish improve to 4-1-0.

The Sailfish scored two early goals in the first 10 minutes, sending the Statesmen fans in disbelief as Daniel Dodge got a pair in six minutes to give the away team the lead 2-0.

David Horstmann, now tied for the all-time in career goals with 15, made it a 2-1 ball game following a penalty kick in the 40th minute.

PBA outshot the Statesmen 10-5 on the day, however Trey Jones picked up four saves on the afternoon for his second loss on the season.

“We had a few good chances at the end of the game”, head coach Jim Allen said. “I thought we got back in the game when David scored that penalty, we just couldn't finish like we have been doing this season”.

The Statesmen remain at home this Saturday as they play the second game of a double-header against Faulkner University. Kick-off is set for 12 noon.
