Statesmen score three in second half, rally 5-1 vs Faulkner

CLEVELAND- Junior forward David Horstmann became the Statesmen's all-time career goal scorer with a two goal effort in a 5-1 victory over Faulkner University Saturday afternoon at Delta Field. The Statesmen (6-1) put on an offensive show in the second half to seal the win, while Faulkner falls to 0-6 on the year. 

Horstmann scored in the 19th minute on a penalty kick to give the Statesmen the lead. The Eagles fought back and quickly scored four minutes later with a goal from Miguel Zapata to even the contest. 

Horstmann rallied again at the 30 minute mark with a little help from Zach Mills who played the ball through the middle of the defense allowing Horstmann to track it down for the easy goal. 

Horstmann holds the record for career goals with 17. 

The Eagles struggled offensively in the second half, allowing Delta State to take full advantage and score three more goals. Mills picked up his second on the year eight minutes into the half. Steven Axe set up the next goal for David Smith (8) with a cross inside for a 4-1 lead. 

Junior defender #Nason Stephens# made a good tackle down in the opposing third of the field and took a shot from 20-yards out that curled into the far post for the his first on the season. 

Trey Jones gets his sixth win on the year while recording just two saves. 

The Statesmen remain at home next Tuesday as they battle Crichton College. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
