Lady Statesmen pound Lady Reddies 76-49 to extend home winning streak

CLEVELAND- Bug Cooper's career-high 16 assists helped the Delta State University Lady Statesmen earn their seventh-consecutive victory, 76-49, over Henderson State Saturday afternoon at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

The win extends Delta State's home winning streak to 30 games, while also extending their conference mark to 31 games. The Lady Statesmen improve to 17-5 overall and 7-0, while the Lady Reddies fall to 9-10 and 3-4 in league play.

The Lady Statesmen made a statement early in the ball game, building a 30 point lead as the half expired.  DSU shot 60 percent (21-of-35) in the first half, with three players knocking down double-digits led by freshman Veronica Walker.

As a team, Delta Sate was 5-of-11 from three points range, although Moe Bell shot 50 percent in the first half. Bug Cooper almost reached her season-high for assists (15) in the first half, dishing out 12.

Henderson State, although having a good opening five minutes, were out played inside and were held to just 29 percent shooting, trailing 54-24 at the break.

The Lady Statesmen were slow out of the tunnel in the second half, but the 30-point lead at the break was just too much for Henderson State to overcome.

DSU shot 51 percent for the game and scored 30 points inside the paint. The home team also cleaned the boards, out-rebounding the visitors 47-29.

Cooper set her career-high with 16 assists and scored eight points.  LaMaesha McAdory finished with the only double-double in the game, knocking down 16 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds. Walker and Bell finished with 15 points each.

HSU shot 29.3 percent for the game, and was led by Chalee Bottoms' 13 points.

The Lady Statesmen hit the road next Thursday to start the second half of conference play in Arkadelphia, Ark., versus Ouachita Baptist. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
